Communications

Through the Internet, we have the capability of making communications virtually free. You don't need to pay such high rates.

With some exceptions, I believe communications should be less than 10% of the current costs. We easily have the technology to achieve this, but it is not being pursued. We do not need to pay what should be considered outrageously high fees.

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is basically a technology that allows you to make phone calls over the Internet. In most cases, call quality is not significantly different to calls via standard phones - in some cases it's even better as the signal is not bounced around satellites.

Technology is developing very rapidly, and it wont be long before VoIP technology is integrated into our everyday lives. Where are many VoIP services, and usually the voice quality is outstanding, and calls from computer to computer (even internationally) are free.

Problems with existing technology:

  • The free version of the service is not as practical as just picking up a phone to make a call. You need a computer to make and receive calls.
  • Although equipment is available to make calls "phone to phone", each user must have VoIP phones, calls are still far more expensive than they need to be. While they are still a fraction of the price of calls though larger telecommunications companies, they are still more expensive than they need to be - they should be near free.
  • Some reliance on telecommunications companies for calls to mobile phones. This means they continue to have at least a partial monopoly over the market.

What we are doing about it:

We are developing hardware that can be plugged into any computer OR directly into a phone socket. Both versions use Internet connections. When the hardware and service is available, for you to make calls from one person to another (no matter where they live), you will only need a phone unit at your home. Anyone you call will also need a phone unit.

To use the service you will only pay for:

1. The actual hardware (estimated $300/unit)

2. An ANNUAL subscription fee (approximately $10 solely to maintain servers)

3. Your existing Internet connection fee (ADSL and faster recommended)

As costs from internet service providers reduce, unlimited calls to anywhere in the world will cost you nickels. In time, we believe it may become a free government service, as it should be.

Like what we're doing? Here's How YOU Can Help:

We do NOT profit from such technology. We are a non-profit organization, and we need your support to fulfill our goals of near-free communications for all. You can help the following ways:

  • Financial donations: no donation is too small or large.
  • Legal assistance: we can never have enough lawyers at our side. Often laws are barriers to progress.
  • Technical expertise: do you have skills that can be used for the development of this technology? If so, we'd love to hear from you.
  • Tell others about us and our web site: If you have a web site, link to us. If you write any publication, tell your subscribers about us. at the very least, tell you friends about us - everyone at the very least can do this. And if everyone does their part to spread the word, progress is far quicker.

In time we believe VoIP phone calls can be a government-sponsored service, and you may never need to pay for phone calls again.
